University of Thi-Qar Journal for Engineering Sciences (UTJES) requires that any research involving human participants, personal data, or identifiable human information be conducted with full respect for participants' rights, privacy, and dignity, in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki and internationally recognized ethical research standards.

1. Requirement for Informed Consent For studies involving human subjects (e.g., in biomedical engineering, ergonomics, human-computer interaction, or survey-based engineering research), authors must confirm that informed consent was obtained from all participants prior to their involvement in the study. In cases involving minors, individuals with cognitive impairments, or other vulnerable populations, consent must be obtained from a legal guardian or authorized representative.

2. Consent for Identifiable Information If the manuscript includes any identifiable personal information, images, videos, or case details that could reveal a participant's identity, authors must obtain and retain explicit written informed consent from the individual(s) concerned (or their legal guardian) for the publication of such material, including in an online open-access format.

3. Statement in the Manuscript Authors must include a clear statement in the Methods section confirming that informed consent was obtained, specifying:

  • The type of consent obtained (e.g., verbal, written).
  • Confirmation that participants were informed of the study's purpose, procedures, and any potential risks.
  • Confirmation of consent for publication, if identifiable data or images are included.

4. Retention of Consent Documentation Authors are required to retain signed consent forms and must provide them to the Editorial Board upon request, without disclosing them publicly, to protect participant confidentiality.

5. Non-Compliance Manuscripts that fail to demonstrate appropriate informed consent procedures may be rejected, require revision, or — if discovered post-publication — may be subject to retraction, in accordance with COPE guidelines on research and publication ethics.
